“Etching the vehicle identification number onto the window of the car discourages thieves from taking the vehicle.”
- National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB)
What is VIN etching?
The car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) is acid-etched into the corner of the glass on your vehicle. A thief can’t alter the number in any way due to the unique installation process.
Is the VIN etching process safe?
Trained auto glass professionals perform the VIN etching by applying a mild acid gel to the windshield and windows. While the gel requires care during the application process, it is safe when dry on vehicle windows.
