I Entered My Personal Info on a Phisher Website. What Do I Do?

The information below provides an overview of internet safety and scams. It is not all inclusive and we encourage you to continue your education beyond what is provided here.

Perhaps the greatest threat to your account information is giving your member number and/or password to another individual. Please remember:

  • No one except a joint account holder needs to know your member number and/or password.
  • No employee of HVFCU will ever ask you for your Internet Banking password information. Call us immediately at 845.463.3011 / 800.468.3011 if any person, whether an HVFCU employee or not, attempts to learn your password.

If you ever reply to a fraudulent email and enter personal or account information on a website that looks similar to the HVFCU homepage, the following steps should be taken immediately to protect your accounts.

  • Change your Internet Banking password. Enter Internet Banking and select “More Features” from the menu bar at the top of the page. Then select “Change Password.” Follow the instructions provided to change your password.
  • Report your credit and debit cards as lost or stolen by calling us at 800.468.3011 / 845.463.3011. During non-business hours, select the phone menu option to report a lost or stolen card.
  • Notify us that you responded to a fraudulent email and revealed personal or account information.

As a reminder, HVFCU never sends emails asking you to confirm personal or account information. Your best protection is to never respond to any email asking for personal or account information
